In a country as fractured and divided as Iraq, such a force has proven to be useful in actually pulling the country together. Last summer Iraqis celebrated the national team winning the Asian Cup. They will play their first World cup qualifying match next Thursday in Australia. You have to wonder what role soccer will play when the history of this era is written.
