The Green Flyers faced a tough test from the Memphis Rush team. After falling behind early by 2 goals, the Flyers struck back with a goal of their own. Eventually, the rally fell short and the Flyers were upended 5-2.The Red Flyers found themselves in a pitch battle with the Wolves. Down 1-0 at the half, the Flyers threatened with several fantastic shots on goal. The back of the net proved elusive though. A late goal by the Wolves wrapped up the game 2-0 and eventually the championship.
Overall, this was a great experience for our kids. I saw tremendous improvement in all aspects of their game this weekend. It's easy to get wrapped up in the wins and losses but the competition used correctly can be a great motivator. It gives you an opportunity to see what you do well and where you can improve. Used incorrectly, it can be toxic to a young person's psyche. I once read that perfect tournament record is 1-1-1. If you win every game, you aren't playing difficult enough competition, If you lose every game, it will hurt your confidence. The goal is improvement. I hope that all of the kids understand after this weekend that they can play at the next level and they can compete with some very good teams. It was amazing that these teams had exactly one practice together, yet played as well as they did. I am proud of all of them and what they were able do this weekend.
